Small but mighty self care tips

In the modern world our lives can be so hectic. Often rushing from one appointment to the next, cramming in work to meet our upcoming deadline. Do we really make enough time for ourselves?

In this series I’ll discuss simple things you can do to improve your mental, emotional and physical well-being in order to look after numero uno. Taking good care of yourself gives you the best chance to be the best version of you. In turn, this will improve your relationships with others, how you feel about yourself and the world. Sounds good, right?
After a tough time with my mental health, working excessive number of hours and generally putting others needs before my own- I decided it would be in my best interest to practice self-care on a daily basis. Since doing so, I have flourished and got to know the real me. Now I do things because I want to, not for the sake of others. I have connected with myself like never before and finally feel like I know my purpose going forward.
Self-care is all about listening to you and your needs. By incorporating simple self-care steps into your daily routine your life could literally change! Here are a few tips you could try fitting into your day:

1.) Start the day right.
Get up early in the morning. Drink water. Meditate. Think about what you want to get from the day ahead. I like to lists to stay organised. Don’t rush yourself.

2.) Be grateful
Always take in the good. Be pleased with what you have and stop comparing yourself with others. Learn to really appreciate the small stuff and know what really matters in life.  Try write down what you are thankful for each day.

3.) Don’t take on too much of other peoples shit.
Remember that it’s all about balance. If your like me and have the urge to help/be there for others then it’s fine to still do that and be there when you can but learn to be your own best friend too. Never feel guilty for taking time for yourself, we all need it.

 

4.) Focus on what you are doing in that moment.
If you are working then work. Watching your favourite TV show? Just watch it! If you are spending time with loved ones then simply do that. This is how you will get the most out of each activity, become more efficient and ultimately happier.

5.) Date yourself.
Don’t be afraid to spend time alone. Take yourself to a coffee shop, out for lunch, or to the cinemas. Whatever suits you- but I’m sure you’ll feel great after it! (even if it might be a bit nerve wracking before hand)
